The Arizona Coyotes announced today that the club will launch a series of initiatives to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15 through October 15.
“On behalf of our Owner, Chairman & Governor Alex Meruelo, and the entire Arizona Coyotes organization, we are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Coyotes President & CEO Xavier Gutierrez. “Alex and I are very proud of our Latino heritage and look forward to celebrating and supporting numerous Hispanic leaders, businesses and non-profit organizations that positively impact our community. Diversity has made America a great country, and this month is about opening minds, raising awareness, and the acceptance of other cultures.”
The Coyotes have partnered with Tecate and Crescent Crown Distributing on a program to support over 45 local Valley Latino-owned restaurants during Hispanic Heritage Month. The Coyotes will feature each restaurant on their social media channels and dedicated landing page from September 15 through October 31. Fans ordering from any of the restaurants during this time will be eligible to win numerous Coyotes prizes including player signed jerseys and sticks. “So many local businesses have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Gutierrez. “We are thrilled to partner with Tecate and Crescent Crown Distributing to support local Latino-owned restaurants and hopefully generate some much-needed business during these unprecedented times. We hope Coyotes fans support these great local restaurants and enjoy some fabulous Latino food as they celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.”
The Coyotes Hockey Development staff will be visiting Chicanos Por La Causa and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley to introduce kids to the great game of hockey and provide them with instructional clinics. All kids participating in the clinics will receive a free street hockey stick and ball so they can work on their skills.
“Hockey is for everyone and we are excited to bring the great game of hockey to Latino kids during Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Lyndsey Fry, President of the Arizona Kachinas Hockey Association. “Through our great sport, we hope to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities.”
During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Arizona Coyotes Foundation will provide the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Chicanos Por La Causa with grants to support their programs. Chicanos Por la Causa is a non-profit organization that helps individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency by providing accessible healthcare, affordable housing, a quality education, access to meaningful work, and political representation. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund empowers Latino families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education, while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible.
In addition, the Arizona Coyotes Foundation is working with hockey artist David Arrigo who is creating three Sugar Skull Coyotes goalie masks that will be auctioned off online. Funds generated from the sale of the mask will go to the Foundation. Details on how to bid on the masks will be announced on the Coyotes social media platforms soon.
During the month, the Coyotes will be also recognizing some of the Valley’s Latino leaders who have made significant contributions in their communities. The “Yotes Latino Leader Spotlight” will be posted on the Coyotes’ social media platforms and on the team’s dedicated landing page for Hispanic Heritage Month at ArizonaCoyotes.com/HHM.
